CVE-2026-116741
Speex through 1.2.1 Out-of-Bounds Write via speex_bits_read_whole_bytes
Description

Speex (libspeex) through 1.2.1 contains an out-of-bounds write vulnerability in speex_bits_read_whole_bytes() in libspeex/bits.c that mishandles length truncation for non-owned SpeexBits buffers. Attackers can stream crafted Speex data into buffers set up with speex_bits_init_buffer() or speex_bits_set_bit_buffer() to corrupt heap or stack memory and crash applications.

Solution
Update Speex library to a version that addresses heap/stack memory corruption vulnerabilities.
  • Update to a patched version of Speex.
  • Recompile affected applications with the updated library.
  • Avoid processing untrusted Speex data.
  • Implement input validation for Speex data.
CWE - Common Weakness Enumeration

While CVE identifies specific instances of vulnerabilities, CWE categorizes the common flaws or weaknesses that can lead to vulnerabilities. CVE-2026-116741 is associated with the following CWEs:

Common Attack Pattern Enumeration and Classification (CAPEC)

Common Attack Pattern Enumeration and Classification (CAPEC) stores attack patterns, which are descriptions of the common attributes and approaches employed by adversaries to exploit the CVE-2026-116741 weaknesses.
