CVE-2026-54914
WebAssembly Micro Runtime: Heap Buffer Overflow in WAMR WASI poll_oneoff Output Buffer
Description

WebAssembly Micro Runtime (WAMR) is a lightweight standalone WebAssembly (Wasm) runtime. Prior to 2.4.5, wasi_poll_oneoff in core/iwasm/libraries/libc-wasi/libc_wasi_wrapper.c validates the output pointer for only one wasi_event_t, while wasmtime_ssp_poll_oneoff in core/iwasm/libraries/libc-wasi/sandboxed-system-primitives/src/posix.c can write as many events as the guest-controlled nsubscriptions value. A crafted guest module can provide multiple subscriptions that produce events while positioning an output region large enough for only one event, causing a later out[nevents] write to cross the validated Wasm linear-memory boundary into adjacent host heap memory. The overwrite contains partly attacker-controlled event data and can reliably crash the host process, with further confidentiality or integrity consequences depending on heap layout. This issue is fixed in version 2.4.5.

Solution
Update WebAssembly Micro Runtime to version 2.4.5 to fix a memory corruption vulnerability.
  • Update WebAssembly Micro Runtime to version 2.4.5.
  • Apply vendor patches for the vulnerability.
  • Validate memory boundaries in event handling.
  • Review host heap memory access controls.
CWE - Common Weakness Enumeration

While CVE identifies specific instances of vulnerabilities, CWE categorizes the common flaws or weaknesses that can lead to vulnerabilities. CVE-2026-54914 is associated with the following CWEs:

Common Attack Pattern Enumeration and Classification (CAPEC)

Common Attack Pattern Enumeration and Classification (CAPEC) stores attack patterns, which are descriptions of the common attributes and approaches employed by adversaries to exploit the CVE-2026-54914 weaknesses.

We scan GitHub repositories to detect new proof-of-concept exploits. Following list is a collection of public exploits and proof-of-concepts, which have been published on GitHub (sorted by the most recently updated).

Results are limited to the first 15 repositories due to potential performance issues.

The following list is the news that have been mention CVE-2026-54914 vulnerability anywhere in the article.

The following table lists the changes that have been made to the CVE-2026-54914 vulnerability over time.
