CVE-2026-89320
HmacShaCryptor.Hash never hashes its input — returns constant HMAC_K("") for all inputs, voiding CBC-HMAC JWE integrity
Description

`HmacShaCryptor.Hash` never hashed its input. For any input it returned `HMAC_K("")` — the MAC of the empty message under the key. Every AES-CBC-HMAC JWE produced or verified by gose therefore carried an authentication tag that is constant per key and independent of the message, removing ciphertext integrity entirely.

CVSS Scores
The Common Vulnerability Scoring System is a standardized framework for assessing the severity of vulnerabilities in software and systems. We collect and displays CVSS scores from various sources for each CVE.
Score Version Severity Vector Exploitability Score Impact Score Source

CVSS 4.0 HIGH [email protected]
Solution
Fix the HMAC hashing implementation to include message input for integrity.
  • Ensure HmacShaCryptor.Hash uses the input message.
  • Verify HMAC tags are generated correctly per key.
  • Test JWE encryption and decryption with message data.
  • Re-evaluate cryptographic library security.
